– The Great Learning

Confucius' text, Zengzi's comments on illustrious virtue, renovation of the people, the highest excellence, the root and the branches, investigation of things, having the thoughts sincere, the rectification of the mind, the regulation of the family, the well-ordering of the State, making the whole kingdom peaceful and happy.

Daxue III. 1.
On the bathing tub of Tang, the following words were engraved:— “If you can one day renovate yourself, do so from day to day. Yea, let there be daily renovation.”
Legge II. 1.
商汤在洗脸盛水的盘子上刻着：“果真要每天洗涤污垢，刷新自己，就要每天每天地刷新，又每天更加刷新。”
白话翻译
Des caractères gravés sur la baignoire du roi Tching-thang disoient : « Renouvelle-toi complétement chaque jour ; fais-le de nouveau, encore de nouveau, et toujours de nouveau. »
Pauthier II. 1.
Sur sa baignoire, le Roi Tang avait fait graver : « Si ce jour te régénère, jour après jour te régénère, chaque jour te régénère »
