The effect of music on Confucius.
When the Master was in Ch'î, he heard the Shâo, and for three months did not know the taste of flesh. "I did not think'" he said, "that music could have been made so excellent as this."
Legge VII.13.
The Master heard the shao in Ch'i and for three months did not notice the taste of the meat he ate. He said, 'I never dreamt that the joys of music could reach such heights.'

Le Maître, étant dans la principauté de Ts'i, entendit exécuter l'Hymne du couronnement de Chouenn1. Pendant trois mois, il en oublia le goût de la viande. « Je ne pensais pas, dit-il, que la musique pût atteindre une si grande perfection. »
