Lunyu III. 20. (60)

The praise of the first of the odes.
The Master said, "The Kwan Tsü is expressive of enjoyment without being licentious, and of grief without being hurtfully excessive."

Legge III.20.

The Master said, 'In the Kuan chu there is joy without wanton- ness, and sorrow without self~injury.'

Le Maître dit : « L'ode Les Mouettes1, exprime la joie et non la licence, la douleur et non l'abattement. »
