Confucius' text, Zengzi's comments on illustrious virtue, renovation of the people, the highest excellence, the root and the branches, investigation of things, having the thoughts sincere, the rectification of the mind, the regulation of the family, the well-ordering of the State, making the whole kingdom peaceful and happy.

The renovation of the people.

In the Book of Poetry, it is said, “Although Zhou was an ancient State, the ordinance which lighted on it was new.”
Legge II. 3.
《诗经．大雅．文王》上说：“歧周虽然是个古老的国家，她所接受的使命是崭新的。”
白话翻译
Le Livre des vers dit :
« Quoique la famille des Tcheou possédât depuis longtemps une principauté royale,
« Elle obtint du ciel (dans la personne de Wen-wang) une investiture nouvelle. »
Pauthier II. 3.
Dans le Livre des vers, il est écrit : « Zhou était un royaume ancien, mais il obtint un nouveau mandat. »
