The Master discusses with his disciples and unveil his preoccupations with society. Tr. Legge (en), Lau (en) and Couvreur (fr).
The necessity to a man of being truthful and sincere.
The Master said, "I do not know how a man without truthfulness is to get on. How can a large carriage be made to go without the crossbar for yoking the oxen to, or a small carriage without the arrangement for yoking the horses?"
Legge II.22.
The Master said, 'I do not see how a man can be acceptable who is untrustworthy in word? When a pin is missing in the yoke-bar of a large cart or in the collar-bar of a small cart, how can the cart be expected to go?'
Lau [2:22]
Le Maître dit : « Je ne sais à quoi peut être bon un homme qui manque de sincérité. Comment employer un char à bœufs sans joug, ou une petite voiture sans attelage ? »
Couvreur II.22.
