Lunyu III. 25. (65)

The comparative merits of the music of Shun and Wû.
The Master said of the Shâo that it was perfectly beautiful and also perfectly good. He said of the Wû that it was perfectly beautiful but not perfectly good.

Legge III.25.

The Master said of the shao that it was both perfectly beautiful and perfectly good, and of the wu that it was perfectly beautiful but not perfectly good.

Le Maître disait que les Chants du Successeur étaient tout à fait beaux et doux ; que les Chants du Guerrier étaient tout à fait beaux, mais non tout à fait doux. Les chants de Chouenn1 sont appelés les Chants du Successeur, parce qu'il succéda à l'empereur Iao2, et comme lui, gouverna parfaitement. Les chants du roi Ou3 sont nommés les Chants du Guerrier, parce qu'ils célèbrent les exploits du roi Ou, qui délivra le peuple de la tyrannie de Tcheou4. Les Chants du Successeur sont au nombre de neuf, parce qu'il y eut neuf péripéties ; les Chants du Guerrier sont au nombre de six, parce qu'il y eut six péripéties. (Tchou Hsi)
