Daxue 
– The Great Learning
Confucean thought summarized for the Prince. Tr. Legge (en), Pauthier (fr), Bog (fr).
Confucius' text, Zengzi's comments on illustrious virtue, renovation of the people, the highest excellence, the root and the branches, investigation of things, having the thoughts sincere, the rectification of the mind, the regulation of the family, the well-ordering of the State, making the whole kingdom peaceful and happy.
Zengzi's Third Commentary
On resting in the highest excellence.
Daxue IV. 2.
In the Book of Poetry, it is said, “The twittering yellow bird rests on a corner of the mound.” The Master said, “When it rests, it knows where to rest. Is it possible that a man should not be equal to this bird?”
Legge III. 2.
又《诗经．小雅．湣蛮》上说：“黄鸟鸣声湣蛮，归宿于草木茂密的山湾。”孔子说：“到应该归宿之处，便知道那是自己的归宿地，难道人可以不如禽鸟么？”
白话翻译
Le Livre des vers dit :
« L'oiseau jaune au chant plaintif miên-mân,
« Fixe sa demeure dans le creux touffu des montagnes. »
Le philosophe (Khoung-tseu) a dit : « En fixant là sa demeure, il prouve qu'il connoît le lieu de sa destination ; et l'homme (la plus intelligente des créatures) ne pourroit pas en savoir autant que l'oiseau ! »
Pauthier III. 2.
Dans le Livre des vers, il est écrit :
« Le loriot gazouillant
« Loge à l'orée des collines. »
Confucius a dit : « Quand il se pose, il sait où il doit se poser ; comment un homme pourrait-il ne pas en savoir autant qu'un loriot ? »
