Daxue XI. 24.
凡 傳 十 章 ： 前 四 章 統 論 綱 領 指 趣 ； 後 六 章 細 論 條 目 工 夫 。 其 第 五 章 乃 明 善 之 要 。 第 六 章 乃 誠 身 之 本 ， 在 初 學 ； 尤 為 當 務 之 急 。 讀 者 不 可 以 其 近 而 忽 之 也 。
There are thus, in all, ten chapters of commentary, the first four of which discuss, in a general manner, the scope of the principal topic of the Work; while the other six go particularly into an exhibition of the work required to its subordinary branches. The fifth chapter contains the important subject of comprehending true excellence, and the sixth, what is the foundation of the attainment of true sincerity. Those two chapters demand the special attention of the learner. Let not the reader despise them because of their simplicity.

L'Explication tout entière consiste en dix chapitres. Les quatre premiers chapitres exposent l'ensemble général de l'ouvrage et en montrent le but. Les six autres chapitres exposent plus en détail les diverses branches du sujet de l'ouvrage. Le cinquième chapitre enseigne le devoir d'être vertueux et éclairé. Le sixième chapitre pose la base fondamentale du perfectionnement de soi-même. Ceux qui commencent l'étude de ce livre doivent faire tous leurs efforts pour surmonter les difficultés que ce chapitre présente à sa parfaite intelligence ; ceux qui le lisent ne doivent pas le regarder comme très-facile à comprendre et en faire peu de cas.
Pauthier
Il y a donc dix chapitres de commentaire. Les quatre premiers éclairent les thèmes généraux du texte et les six autres en discutent certains aspects plus en détails. Le cinquième chapitre explique l'approfondissement de la connaissance et le sixième montre comment purifier ses désirs. Malgré leur apparente simplicité, ces deux chapitre sont essentiels et demandent une attention particulière du lecteur.
