Daxue 
– The Great Learning
Confucean thought summarized for the Prince. Tr. Legge (en), Pauthier (fr), Bog (fr).
Confucius' text, Zengzi's comments on illustrious virtue, renovation of the people, the highest excellence, the root and the branches, investigation of things, having the thoughts sincere, the rectification of the mind, the regulation of the family, the well-ordering of the State, making the whole kingdom peaceful and happy.
Zengzi's Tenth Commentary
On the well-ordering of the State, and making the whole kingdom peaceful and happy.
Daxue XI. 5.
In the Book of Poetry, it is said, “Before the sovereigns of the Yin dynasty had lost the hearts of the people, they could appear before God. Take warning from the house of Yin. The great decree is not easily preserved.” This shows that, by gaining the people, the kingdom is gained, and, by losing the people, the kingdom is lost.
Legge X. 5.
《诗经．大雅．文王》上又说；“当殷商还没脱离民众时，能够无愧地面对上帝。我们要以它作面镜子，证明要保持国运昌盛是不容易的。”这就说明，得到民众的心，就能得到整个国家；失掉民众的心，就会失掉整个国家。
白话翻译
Le Livre des vers dit :
« Avant que les princes de la dynastie des Yn (ou Chang) eussent perdu l'affection du peuple,
« Ils pouvoient être comparés au Très-Haut.
« Nous pouvons considérer dans eux,
« Que le mandat du ciel n'est pas facile à conserver. »
Ce qui veut dire :
Obtiens l'affection du peuple, et tu auras l'empire ;
Perds l'affection du peuple, et tu perdras l'empire.
Pauthier X. 5.
Dans le Livre des Vers, il est écrit :
« Avant leur déclin, les souverains Yin
« Sacrifiaient à l'Empereur Céleste
« Voici l'enseignement des Yin :
« Il n'est pas facile à garder, le mandat céleste ! »
Le sens de la doctrine est ceci : Gagne le cœur des hommes et tu gagneras l'empire. Perds le cœur des hommes et tu perdras l'empire.
